Faded

I don’t understand why actors and actresses don’t quit and enjoy living off of their huge paycheks once their popularity starts fading.

Lately I’ve been noticing a lot of commercials with a celebrity that was huge in the 70’s, 80’s or the 90’s endorsing random products. Every time I see these commercials, I can’t even pay attention to the product. What catches my attention is the once famous, bored for work “celebrity” touting whatever product they “just discovered” or are completely “hooked on”. I find myself wondering what it must be like for a celebrity to be past their hey-day, past the days where they were followed around by the paparazzi, past the days where anyone actually cares if they are in an upcoming movie or not. I wonder, back in 1978 when Jamie Lee Curtis was the star of the classic horror film “Halloween” and in 1994 when she won all sorts of awards for “True Lies”, did it ever cross her mind that in 2008, her only gig of the year would be gushing over a Activia, a product that makes you have more spontaneous bowel movements than you can control? Was that in her master plan?

I wonder what her reaction would have been during the height of her career if someone had pulled her aside in the red carpet and said, “Hey in 15 years, you’ll be doing commercials for a stool softening yogurt”?

I guess I’d rather have everyone remember me for my awesome, award winning role in a 1992 blockbuster than from poo activating diatary supplement commercials.
